MU Administrative Services hosts resume writing workshop

Columbia Area Career Center and MU Administrative Services, (Partners in Education) annually name an Outstanding Student in each program area. As part of the process, nominees, (who are selected by their instructors) are asked to complete an application, write an essay, submit a resume and be interviewed. To assist with the process, MU Administrative Services  hosted a resume writing clinic on the CACC campus. This opportunity allowed students to learn from professionals the nuances of writing a standout resume and advice on acing the interview. Thanks to Dan Crumbly and Joe Jones, representatives from University of Missouri Human Resources,  for giving an inspirational presentation as well as one-on-one resume review. In two days, over 50 students attended the workshop.

Repair It Forward and Refugee and Immigration Services

David Hopkins and his A+ IT Essentials students are at it again. This time the recipients of their hard work are families helped by Refugee and Immigration Services of Catholic Charities of Central and Northern Missouri. The computers came from Missouri Employers' Mutual, were refurbished by the "Repair It Forward" program at Columbia Area Career Center, and will wind up in homes of resettled refugees who qualify. Read all about it in the Missourian.

Construction Technology and Habitat for Humanity

CACC's Construction Technology 1 & 2 students spend most of the school year constructing a Habitat for Humanity house. This year, they are working on two houses. In addition to their regular work site, they were asked to put roof sheeting on the Show-Me Central Habitat for Humanity "Net-Zero" house. The local Habitat for Humanity was the recipient of a $60,000 grant to help fund the building of an energy efficient house which features solar panels, a solar water heater, low flow plumbing fixtures, 45% more insulation and LED lighting. Instructor, Eric Radmer and his crew of 9 were happy to assist in this project.

Construction Technology students complete OSHA 10 hour training each fall to gain skills necessary for a safe work site.

Global Village

Global Village is an opportunity for students to experience different cultures right in their own high school.
Culinary I students research and prepare samples of food (enough for 400 to taste)from a country of their choice for Rock Bridge students and staff to taste. As part of their grade, they decorate their serving area, create a display and a brochure and some students even dress in costume. It makes for a fun day of learning. Culinary instructors Chef Harlan, Chef Risner and Chef Frink visit each table to evaluate the food, and question the students about their understanding of the culture they studied. Judges also selected the top entrants. This year's winners are: Thailand, Scotland and Germany
